About me
Director of the CSI Mini-Cassia Center, Adjunct Biology and Education Instructor, Doctoral Candidate in Higher Education Leadership, and Science Mom for local classrooms and community groups. I have a passion for making science fun and accessible for learners of all ages. I have observed that when we allow students to make “discoveries with support”, they realize science, math, and technology are relevant and interesting. With my college students, young and old, I help them see that scientific concepts are best understood when we apply those concepts to their daily lives and the decisions they need to make for their families. Whether I am teaching a preschool class, SPARK kids, pre-service teachers for ISU, or my science campers at CSI, I get the most satisfaction when I help someone realize that science can be understood and enjoyed. I know that passionate adults play a critical role in the academic success of children. I borrow my teaching motto from Rachel Carson: “If a child is to keep alive his inborn sense of wonder, he needs the companionship of at least one adult who can share it, rediscovering with him the joy, excitement, and mystery of the world we live in.”
